Natural Remedy for Heartburn: Find out about natural Heartburn cure secrets that your doctor doesn't know.
Can you get a natural remedy for heartburn or must you as a heartburn sufferer endlessly put up with the side effects of prescribed medication to gain only temporary relief? Following 11 years of experimenting on a trial and error basis, a former heartburn sufferer and expert nutritionist tells the truth about naturally solving and preventing acid reflux.
Heartburn, or in medical terms gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs when the one-way valve situated in the esophagus (called the LES – lower esophageal sphincter) becomes weak and unstable, no longer blocking the passage of stomach acid and food back up into the esophagus. The backwards flow of acid (acid reflux) often results in a sensation of burning, called heartburn. Because of this, acid reflux patients often feel a distinct burning sensation under the breastbone, typically occurring at night.
When this reflux gets to the upper part of the esophagus, the results can be a dry cough, wheezing, hoarseness or a chronic sore. In addition, chronic reflux into the lower esophagus can cause a condition known as Barrett's esophagus, turning into esophageal cancer in some 0.5% of cases.
Although weakening of the LES together with several other aspects including insufficient stomach acid and various genetic tendencies are all aspects to be dealt with for a complete cure for acid reflux, these are local or immediate reasons for heartburn.
Heartburn is a complex phenomenon caused by more profound factors and co-factors besides the local causes already referred to. Indications are of an additional group of internal factors that produce an environment leading to the formation of heartburn. Any natural remedy for heartburn must first of all deal with these factors.
Because most of prescribed medication is aimed at relieving the immediate causes of heartburn, long-term consumption of these drugs will only give temporary improvement while causing a host of side effects.
Antacids used over a long period of time for example can make the problem worse, because stomach acid is needed for reasons of good digestion and immunity. Temporary relief may come from blockers such as PPIs and H2, but these may also lead to osteoporosis.
Research done recently indicates that diet, lifestyle and patterns of behavior can aggravate an existing heartburn condition, showing preference for an approach that is natural and holistic.
The right diagnosis of your condition and adherence to the holistic approach (taking supplements of specific herbs and vitamins) while observing a full set of dietary principles and Candida control protocols (also a major factor in heartburn) can bring a natural cure to heartburn and safely and effectively stop it from happening again.
