Your Baby's Brain.

It all boils down to creating a loving and stimulatingenvironment. Because the brain operates on a use it or lose itprinciple - what your baby sees, feels, hears, and experiences is veryimportant. Stimulating your baby’s brain is as simple as talking andsinging to her often. Try placing interesting objects and pictures nearher so she can observe and learn. Simple games such as Peek A Boo alsoaid in stimulating your baby's brain development. Help your child get asmart start and play with him or her every day.

The Use it Or Lose it Principle

Babies who receive lots oflove learn better. The reason for this is because brain developmentrelies on the way the brain is used. Everything your baby experiencesor doesn't experience either strengthens or weakens connections withinthe brain.

Nature VS Nurture Debate

We are born with certain genes(nature) which interact with the environment (nurture) both of whicheffect the way a baby's brain develops.

Role of the Parent

Babies come into this world eager toconnect with you. This emotional attachment encourages your baby towant to learn. Your love and attention provides the foundation for thetype of person your baby will grow up to be.

How to nurture your baby's brain development

  • Keep to a simple routine.
  • Give your baby lots of love and affection.
  • Always respond promptly when she cries.
  • Play with your baby to stimulate her brain growth.
  • Give your baby some down time - avoid over stimulating her.
  • Talk to your baby often. This is how she learns language.
  • Play games like peek -a -boo.
  • Mobiles that play music are great for the development of a baby's brain.
  • Place your baby on her tummy for short periods of time. Use an interesting textured play mat to make tummy time more fun
  • Give your baby noisy toys so she learns cause and effect. If I squeeze this it makes a neat noise!
  • Read simple books to your baby. Texture books are also a great way to develop your baby's sense of touch.
  • Put a baby mirror near her and watch her explore the image.
