Recreational vehicles are a great way to spend time with your family. But when they break down, you need to find RV parts fast so repairs don't put a damper on your vacation. Here are some suggestions on how to find both new and used RV parts.

STEP 2:

Check at an RV dealership. RV dealerships not only sell RVs, but they also service them. Talk to your mechanic at the RV dealership to see if he has a stash of used parts for your recreational vehicle. He might even have some new ones on hand. Chances are this guy will know exactly where to get the part you need to get your RV back in working order.

STEP 3:

Read the classifieds. It's a stretch, but you might be able to find parts for your RV in the classified ads. You will probably need to keep your eyes open for a few weeks before you come across any RV parts. And if you still don't have any luck, consider posting an ad in the 'wanted' section for the exact piece that you're looking for. You may just have someone contact you who didn't want to spend the money advertising in the classifieds. It's also an easy way to ensure that you won't be hit with exorbitant shipping fees since your classifieds have a limited distribution area.

STEP 4:

Check salvage yards. Local salvage yards may also have a stash of used RV parts. Call before you visit to see if they carry a supply of RV parts. If you're lucky, they may also have a website where you can look online through their parts inventory.

STEP 5:

Browse online auctions. Boat, RV and car parts are becoming more popular at online websites and auction sites. Check out http://www.uneedapart.com/ for an extensive inventory of parts. As well, peruse EBay to see if the RV part you're looking for is available. Always consider the added shipping costs required with this method, and decide whether it is more economical to purchase used or new RV parts.
