Posting your videos online is just the start: you also need to get them noticed. While the race to become the top video search site is still on (Google hasn't even entered the picture yet), you can make sure your videos are picked up by the existing search engines by following these tips.

To learn more about video search, we spoke with Gary Baker, CEO of ClipBlast, one of the leading search sites. 1. Use Metadata Effectively

Video search isn't that different from Web search, and the video creator's struggle to be noticed is much like that of Web producers in the early days of the Net. Your first step is to format the metadata for your video in a way that will get it noticed by the spiders indexing for search sites.

Use a literal descriptive title, an accurate description (it doesn't have to be short, just accurate and descriptive), and keyword tags that are specific to that video. Also, include a thumbnail image.

You can use a tool like FeedForAll to construct your feed, or create an XML or RSS feed by hand. 2. Submit Your Feed

Once your feed is complete, submit it to video search engines such as ClipBlast and Truveo. Look for a link to submit or index your video. 3. Add Search to Your Site

Once you've got viewers on your site, keep them there by adding your own video search. ClipBlast makes it easy to add one. Look for the link at the bottom of the homepage. You can even set it to search only your site by default. 4. Don't Cheat the Feed

You might be tempted to game the system by repeating keywords to get a better ranking or by using keywords that don't apply to your clip, but it won't work. Suspicious keywords will get your feed flagged at ClipBlast, where a editor will then look it over. If the editor decides you're trying to cheat the system, your entry will end up with a lower ranking. 5. Create Multiple Channels

Create your own channels on hosted video sites like YouTube, Revver, and Brightcove. Then you'll have those site's search engines bringing viewers to your videos.

Follow the tips and your videos will have a better chance of being seen by a wide audience, which will create more growth on your site.
