Shedding Some Light on Cellulite

Many people believe that fat and cellulite are the same thing. They are not. Cellulite is a kind of fat tissue in the subcutaneous layer of the skin that contains constricting bands of connective tissue. This connective tissue, which varies in thickness and is laced with fat cells, is held in place by a network of fibers that protects our body, cushioning our muscles and organs; it is also surrounded by a liquid that both nourishes it and provides it with an effective waste system. When all is working well in the system, waste products are removed from the body and smooth curves result; when fats, fluids and toxins are trapped deep in the skin (below the epidural layer), the connective tissue thickens and hardens, giving a dimpling effect. As we mature, the layer of skin thins, resulting in the rippled appearance of cellulite.

What is the difference between cellulite and fat? Though everyone has a smooth layer of fat, individual amounts depend on weight, lifestyle and genetics. This fat layer acts as an insulator for the body and cushions the organs, muscles and nerves. Cellulite, on the other hand, is lumpy and provides no padding whatsoever. It only occurs in certain areas of the body: the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and breasts. When men get cellulite, it tends to be on the neck and abdomen. Cellulite is that bumpy looking fat that accumulates around the buttocks, abdomen or breast.

Cellulite is not necessarily a factor of body weight. You don't have to be heavy to have cellulite. Everyone has some cellulite, somewhere in their body. However, it shows through more on some people than it does others. Though diet and lifestyle have an impact on cellulite formation, cellulite is primarily comprised of toxins, poisons and fats that build up and remain in the body. It can affect both men and women of any age, size, weight and body structure.

There are several reasons why cellulite forms under the skin: lack of daily exercise, a sluggish or sick liver, a decreased metabolic rate, toxins in the body, hormonal changes, and the consumption of too much fatty and unhealthy food. Most of these reasons can be avoided, but some cannot.

It is very hard to get rid of cellulite. The best thing that one can do is to eat healthy foods and exercise regularly. Do not eat foods that are high in fat or salt. Do not skip meals and make sure you eat three well-rounded, healthy meals per day. Ten to fifteen minutes of brisk walking daily can also help reduce cellulite. Sometimes, a doctor can perform surgical liposuction to take the cellulite out. Medical or professional massages have also been proven to help eliminate cellulite. Like walking, ten to fifteen minutes of massage can reduce cellulite. There are also supplements and topical preparations that can help you get rid of unsightly cellulite. One such topical preparation is Celluthin(tm). Available at http://www.bodestore.com , Celluthin(tm) can be used on the stomach, buttocks, thighs, arms or anywhere you may have cellulite.

Cellulite is different from fat and everyone has some cellulite. Man or woman, young or old, your body has cellulite under the skin. With the proper diet, nutrition and exercise, you can reduce cellulite. Medical massages, treatments, and supplements are also available to reduce the appearance of cellulite.
