SignProtect is signature authentication technology that is provided in the form of a low level API that can be configured and emdedded in Windows based applications (Visual C++ 6 or .NET). The vendor states that the product can be deployed in either remote devices (PDAs, tablets, etc.) or in back-office environments for the verification of signature images.

The SignProtect technology allows for the finding, extracting, encoding and automated verification of signatures against authentic samples in both on-line or paper environments. It does so by creating an encrypted authentic "code" from multiple valid signatures.

A key feature of the SignProtect platform is that the authentication code created by the platform can be inscribed directly on the original document or embedded in the hardware device that will be used for signing. No external DB connectivity is therefore required for the authentication of the signature itself; the necessary information for the authentication is contained within the encrypted code. The vendor states that the original technology that serves as the basis of the product was delivered as part of a self-authenticating check solution co-developed and marketed by the John H. Harland Company.

In addition to one-to-one signature authentications, the product can also review signature archives for inconsistent signatures.

According to the vendor, the machine that employs the encoding process requires 60 MB disk space for the software; not including space for signature images.
