Following Adobe's announcement of Flash Media Server 3 and its release of the Flash Player 9 Update 3, both of which bring streaming H.264 content to the Web, Sorenson has announced the release of Squeeze 4.8, which supports H.264/AVC video and AAC audio.

Available immediately, Sorenson Squeeze 4.8 for Adobe Flash lets users encode MPEG-4 video compatible with Flash 9 Update 3 using the H.264/AVC, AAC, and HE-AAC codecs. Because the resulting files are true MPEG-4 files, they'll be compatible with the Apple iPod, the Sony PSP, and other portable devices.

Besides encoding into Flash, Squeeze 4.8 can encode files into several H.264 variants, including MPEG-4 Part 10 and 3GPP.

Sorenson Squeeze 4.8 for Adobe Flash is available for both the Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and features the same interface as version 4.5. It costs $199 for new users and $49 as an upgrade, and can be downloaded from www.sorensonmedia.com.

Test Your Flash
If you've already downloaded Adobe's Flash Player 9 Update 3, you can view streaming H.264 video at two Adobe sites: HD Gallery and Flash On. Before you make plans to offer H.264 Flash on your site, first read over the steep hardware requirements that Adobe has posted.
