(NC)—The tissues and cells of your eyes are very fragile and can be damaged by too much sun as well as by eye-strain due to too much reading, computer work, or focusing on close work of other kinds. Here are some natural ways to help you have healthy eyes for life:

• Buy and wear quality sunglasses that can help protect your eyes from direct sun, reflections from water, and ultraviolet rays.

• Wear a sun hat or visor to further protect your eyes from direct sunlight.

• Eat lots of fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant protection; especially green and leafy vegetables and dark coloured fruits or their juices.

• Choose dietary supplements with lutein, a carotenoid found in the eyes, that can support eye health. Combinations, such as SuperVision with lutein or Omega-3 SuperVision with lutein, contain bioflavonoids and antioxidants as well as other proven herbals and nutrients that support eye health and visual function.

• Have your eyes checked at least once a year to determine whether or not you need to wear corrective lens, or to ensure your eyeglass prescription is up-to-date.

• When your eyes are tired at the end of the day, apply a cool facecloth or even cooled tea bags to soothe the eyes and help reduce puffiness.
