Originally published at Internet.comSybase Data Integration Suite is a collection of integrated Sybase products that together provide multiple data-management capabilities to database administrators and developers; including replication, ETL, federation from multiple heterogeneous data stores, and more. Combined with these primary tools are integrated utilities facilitating DB development, modeling, and metadata management.
Primary capabilities of the suite and the components that facilitate them include:
- Data integration (Sybase Data Federation), or the ability to integrate data from multiple distributed sources into a single interface layer. Facilitated by the vendor's Sybase Avaki EII, the data federation capabilities of the suite work off the original data sources, and not replicated DBs.
- Replication (Sybase Replication) capabilities, courtesy Sybase Replication Server. Sybase Replication Server provides a platform within which administrators can designate and perform near real-time data synchronization between primary and replicate data servers, which may reside in remote, geographically dispersed locations. The platform is transaction-based; in that the transactions are replicated from and applied to the replicate data servers and not the actual data itself. Both Sybase and non-Sybase data servers are supported on both the primary and replicate side of the replication transaction.
- Real-time event driven actions (Sybase Real Time Events), courtesy of Sybase Real-Time Data Services. With the Real Time Events application, data can be pushed proactively from multiple, heterogeneous databases to messaging architectures without relying on batch processes or polling.
- Query tools (Sybase Search) for structured and unstructured data from both fixed and mobile sources via Sybase OmniQ.
- ETL capabilities (Sybase ETL) for the collection and transformation of data from multiple sources into a single repository. Sybase ETL is courtesy of the vendor's 2006 acquisition of Solonde.
Workbench tools that will ship with the suite include integrated modeling and metadata management based on the vendor's PowerDesigner offering; and the Eclipse-based WorkSpace development environment. Finally, the Sybase Data Services Administrator facilitates the management and deployment of the integration suite.
With the exception of the Sybase ETL component, the suite is expected to be available in 4Q, 2006 (Sybase ETL is available now and is expected to be integrated with the Data Integration Suite in future versions).
