Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Xbox 360 Review Dayton OH

Tiger Woods 07 is the best golf game on the Xbox 360 but that's not hard considering its one of the only golf titles.

A few years ago Tiger Woods lost his number one ranking for a period of time to Vijay Singh, another sublimely talented golfer. Showing the true champion he is, Woods has come back in unstoppable form, and while he remains the world's number one, his game has garnered derision from some quarters for being a bit too easy to play. While 07 hasn't done all that much to make the game harder, with all the help turned off and club selection etc, this game offers a true challenge which makes this a champion game, just like the one which is splashed on the cover.

Obviously the main aim of Tiger Woods is to offer a golfing experience much like that of a player on the professional tour. The main game is a career mode where you build either a custom character or take an amateur Tiger through the qualifying rounds and small tournaments to finally get the invitation to the world's most famous golf tour and the one with the biggest prize money on offer. However there are also a few other modes on offer for those who just want a casual game and don't want to commit themselves to a long career.

Ignoring the career mode leaves Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 a shell of a game lacking substance, and it is very clear that these modes were purely designed for the multiplayer component of the game. When you do start off you won't have access to the best clubs or courses and to take most of the Professionals on, you will have to build your character up quite a bit. However outside the career mode some of the professionals can be used right from the get go so EA has tried to keep from forcing players into the career mode despite it being the meat and potatoes of the game.

As expected this is a very authentic golf game. To play in tournaments you have to play four rounds, unless you miss the cut and generally it is very hard to get anything better than a birdie on the courses. The developers have accurately modeled the courses so if Tiger can only hit 250m on a par five, then where the ball lands is where the ball would generally land on the real course so there is no doubt that this is one of the more realistic golf series around. The improvements this year include the ability to train your golf player away from tournaments and unique challenges which give the career mode a higher sense of realism. Only the most hardcore players will go for this option we think, as it is possible to just skip from tournament to tournament.
