To be a good seller, you need to have more than a good quality product at a reasonable price and a buyer .There are details which go into ensuring that as a seller, you end up selling and selling better. So what are these details as far as flea markets are concerned? Read on to find out.

STEP 2:

Customer. Know your customers and what they want. Visit some markets before you start and see what products move and from where they move (which markets). Know that your customer would like courteous and amiable service. A friendly vendor always attracts more custom than the opposite. Keep it convenient for the customer by accepting credit card payments for purchases. This would even lead them to increase their purchases. Be there for the customer - to help and to answer his/her queries.

STEP 3:

Product. Ensure that you are well stocked and source from the right places and vendors. Going to yard sales, auctions etc when they are about to close will help you get a discount on block purchases too. Just like in yard sales, empty out all that you and your family, friends don't want to keep. Research around with wholesalers on the prices of their items you've seen moving at flea markets and source from the one offering the lowest price. Based on the market, don't stock items that have stopped moving and add on items that are seeing increased demand. Try to keep a varied shelf to interest buyers unless your strategy is to specialize only in a few items at low prices.

STEP 4:

Your shop. Keep an orderly booth. Keep your area a pleasant place through attractive displays and clean merchandise. Some soft music will also help. Once arranged, step outside and see for yourself whether you'll walk in, had you been a customer. Display similar items together, e.g. books. Keep the price tags visible and boldly marked unless haggling is ok. Keep markers and tags handy - if you need to change the rates anytime. Keep your stock lots under the tables -with only the samples for display. Get low cost fixtures from yard sales, etc. Display items on shelf units, space permitting, as they catch the eye better. Put up your booth in the busy 'full of life'markets and never in sleepy, lazy, isolated ones. Get the right location -use association directories, find the best rates, check on storage facility. Get the best placed prominent booth the customer can see on walking in.

STEP 5:

Yourself. Know the local regulations on permit, license etc and your obligations on tax. Where possible, take help with you as an unmanned table is an invitation to the wrong kind of visitors. Carry lots of small change. For want of it, you may lose customers. Take food & drink for the day and also a couple of chairs to help rest your feet during the day. Be there early to catch the early ones, buyers and buys, and also to get a good start to your business.Follow these simple guidelines, and you will take home more cash than cargo at the day's end. Happy selling!!
