With the addition of a heavier-duty W62 chassis and pending PTO capabilities, Workhorse offers walk-in trucks more flexibility in terms of the equipment they carry, tow or have built in. Additional features include extra cab seating, and pneumatic and electrical power with major PTO components tucked out of the way between frame rails.

Extending the capacity of the walk-in lineup to 19,500 and 23,500 pounds GVWR, Workhorse offers these higher capacity platforms with gas as well as diesel engines. In addition the W42 model also offers gas and diesel options.

W62 gas models use General Motors' 8.1L Vortec? V8 gasoline engine mated to the five-speed Allison 1000HS (for 19,500 pound GVWR) or Allison 2200HS (for 23,500 pound GVWR) transmission. The big block Vortec produces 310 horsepower and 455 pound-foot of torque.

The diesel W62 uses the International? MaxxForce? 5, a 4.5L V6 engine with an Electro-Hydraulic G2 fuel injection system, turbocharged. It is mated to the same Allison transmissions as the 8.1L Vortec and produces 200 horsepower and 440 pound-foot of torque.

Diesel W42 uses the same MaxxForce 5 engine, while the gas version uses GM's 4.8L Vortec (264 horsepower, 295 pound-foot torque) as standard, with a 6.0L Vortec (307 horsepower, 357 pound-foot torque) as optional.

New features improve ride, handling and performance

Features include Meritor Quadraulic brakes ? four-wheel disc brakes with four pistons at each caliper. The braking system also includes WABCO 4-channel ABS system with full J-1939 diagnostic capability. The 225/70 19.5-inch tires are standard, with 245/70 19.5-inch option on steel wheels in black, gray or white. Mud/snow treads are also an option for the rear tires.

W62 also uses two-leaf parabolic springs coupled with premium gas shock absorbers and the truck platform easily turns with ZF Servocom 8095 variable ratio power steering. The instrument cluster has an information center for the truck, tilt steering column and custom 15-1/2-inch steering wheel (18-inch optional), cruise control, and brake/transmission/shift interlock. A remote shift gear is mounted on the dashboard, as is the ignition keyhole and an International-style front grill provides a different look.

Extended Service Coverage

Workhorse's Extended Service Coverage offers different levels of warranty protection for up to five years or 100,000 miles for Workhorse gas chassis and five years or 250,000 miles for Workhorse diesel chassis. The company also offers a free 24/7 emergency roadside assistance for the duration of the warranty period.

More to come

A PTO (power take-off) option that will provide both electrical and pneumatic on-site power in conjunction with Workhorse's diesel W62 is expected to be the next new option.
