An open floor plan in this Franklin, N.C. home by Goshen Timber Frames allows the owners to entertain friends and family, but also to have a cozy feel and intimate seating areas. The owners also wanted to use the natural local materials and to have the house reflect the warm and calming feel from the moment one enters.

Site layout was an important part of the project to accommodate the owners' desire for the mountain views to be seen from almost every room. A floor plan with open kitchen, dining and living area was designed with varying roof lines, creating large open spaces with vaulted ceilings and many windows. The living area was designed with 22-in. ceilings that accommodated the design of the loft area and partial second floor.

One master bedroom suite was designed on the first floor with patio doors leading to the open deck. A screened-in porch off the kitchen with outdoor stone fireplace allows the owners to relax to the sound of the stream's music.
