While the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas isn't traditionally the place for professional video product releases, there were still plenty of announcements that caught our eye. Read on for our list of CES announcements that you need to know about.

* Canon Cams: Canon introduced the Vixia HF10 ($1,099), with 16MB of built-in flash memory and a slot for SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) removable flash, and the Vixia HF100 ($899), which is identical but lacks the built in flash memory. Both will be released in late April.

* Sony Style: Sony announced the Handycam HDR-HC9, which will add controls for spot metering and focus, color bars, and a center marker. It will list for $1,099 when released in February.

In March, Sony will release three AVCHD camcorders. The SR11 will offer a 60GB drive and list for $1,199 and the SR12 will offer a 120GB drive and list for $1,399. Both use 1/3.15-inch 5-megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensors and offer face detection. Additionally, the lower cost SR10 will offer an improved 15x zoom, and will sell for $999. All three will support 1,920 by 1,080 recording.

* Editing Power: Two new software products will help people who need to edit AVCHD or HDDVD video on a budget. ArcSoft has released a new version of TotalMedia Studio, which now supports AVCHD, HDDVD, Blu-ray, VCH, and DVD files, and can work with HD files that come from both hard drive and flash memory cameras.

Also, Sony has re-launched Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Edition ($129), which now works with AVCHD and HDV video.

* Super Storage: Carry big video files in small spaces with the Corsair 32GB Flash Voyager and Flash Survivor drives. The drives are bootable, and contain enough storage for 16 full-length HD movies or an entire season of a TV show. The Flash Voyager has a rubber shell and will list for $229, while the Flash Survivor has a waterproof aluminum shell and will list for $249.

* Mac Attack: Even though the San Francisco Macworld expo is a week away, Cupertino couldn't resist unveiling its new high-end desktop today. The Mac Pro offers two Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors running at up to 3.2GHz. The high-end model begins at $4,399, before customization. So why did Apple release a choice product a week before the expo? Could it be to steal some headlines from CES? Or because Macworld already had too many major announcements to make? We can only guess, because Apple rarely reveals its motives.
