What is involved with a merchant account:

Services for Processing: In order to establish a new merchant bank account, a corporate leader or merchant will apply directly to a Merchant Service Provider like Merchant Warehouse. The denial or eventual approval of any merchant banking account will depend on several elements, including:

o The Credit Score of the Applicant and/or their Personal Guarantor
o The type of business conducted (services or goods)
o Report on the Financial Standing of the Business and Type of Bank Account held
o Length Business has been in Operation
o Policies for Refunds and Returns
o Type of Merchant and Method of Card Acceptance
o Average Ticket and Monthly Volume

Fees and Rates for Processing: Numerous fees are assessed and charged to business owners when opening and maintaining a merchant bank account. There are two central fees charged to merchant for such accounts that largely depend on the type of account and account service provider. These are:

o Discount Rates. All processed sales transactions are charged and divided into three distinct qualification categories, which are Qualified, Mid-Qualified and Non-Qualified rates. The type of sale and discount rate is always based upon the variety of credit card charged and how the transaction is ultimately processed and accepted by the merchant.

o Authorization or Transaction Fee. For every authorization request and transactions processed, this fee is applied to all returns, sales, declines sales, voided transactions and full batch settlements.

Capability Systems for Processing: Credit card processing electronic equipment and respective software are used to process payments. They work in collaboration with one another to render card information, authorize transaction requests and finally, close sales transactions. Several types of equipment are thus employed by merchants:

o Sales terminals including hard-wired traditional retail units, wireless terminals for remote transactions, Contactless (online), Stand alone and Terminals coupled with printers in combination.

o Personal computing software that may be stand-alone or may be connected into other business systems.

o Internet Gateway Solution including eCommerce versions or virtual terminals.

In order to retain complete client satisfaction and drive company revenue and sales upwards, it is crucial for any business to sustain a good merchant bank account and be able to accept and process the payments of all credit cards. We live in an increasingly cashless society, check fraud is an increasing concern, and if you require customers to leave your store to get cash from an automated teller machine to do business with you, you will most likely lose some of that business.
